SMS Consent & Opt-In Flow
Last updated: April 22, 2026
Overview
Belay is a booking and payments platform used by small local service businesses (operators) to accept appointments and payments from their customers (clients). All SMS messages we send are transactional — related to a booking, payment, or account event. We do not send marketing SMS.
Clients provide their phone number at the time of booking through a public booking page hosted at {operator-slug}.belay.cc/book. The consent language (below) is displayed directly beneath the contact fields on that page, and booking is only completed after the user selects the consent checkbox and clicks the booking button.
Operators provide their phone number at onboarding through app.belay.cc/register, with the same consent language shown beneath the phone field.
Mock of the consent point
This is a representative mock of where the consent language appears during the booking flow. The real booking page will match this structure in production.
I agree to receive SMS messages from {Operator Name} via Belay about your booking, including confirmations, reminders, receipts, and account-access links. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy and Terms.
Exact consent language
The checkbox text shown in the contact step reads:
I agree to receive SMS messages from {Operator Name} via Belay about your booking, including confirmations, reminders, receipts, and account-access links. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy and Terms.
Messages we send
- Booking confirmations — sent immediately after a successful booking.
- Appointment reminders — sent the day before a scheduled service.
- One-time passcodes (OTPs) — sent when a client logs in or performs a sensitive account action.
- Account-access links — magic links for clients to manage their bookings without a password.
- Payment receipts — sent after a successful charge.
- Payment failure notifications — sent when a payment fails, with a link to update payment information.
- Operator alerts — for operators: new bookings, new leads, failed-payment notices, subscription cancellations.
STOP and HELP handling
STOP: Replying STOP immediately opts the sender out of all further SMS from Belay. The user will receive one final confirmation message, then no further SMS unless they opt back in.
HELP: Replying HELP returns an auto-response directing the user to info@belay.cc for support.
Data sharing
No mobile information (including phone numbers and consent records) is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information is shared only with subcontractors that support delivery of the SMS program (for example, Twilio as our SMS service provider) solely to operate the messaging program.
